This past Sunday November 15th, the Brothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon were joined by Dean Prepike, Sr Associate Dean of Students, Dean Luna, Assistant Dean of Students, Berry Kates- an alumnus from our chapter’s 1985 class, and six University of Miami freshman in order to virtually congratulate the four winners and three finalists of Florida Gamma’s annual Sig Ep Balanced Man Scholarship. The meeting included a speech from Berry Kates, the president of Innovative Group, a national digital marketing services company, and a presentation of the backgrounds of the finalist’s and winner’s accomplishments.
The Balanced Man Scholarship awards thousands of dollars to recipients that exemplify the philosophical tenets of Sigma Phi Epsilon: focusing on living a balanced lifestyle, Equal rights and Responsibilities, Continuous Development, Accountability, Living the Ritual, and Mentoring. All qualities that our recipients this year emulate. While COVID has forced us to relinquish our usual in-person banquet, the zoom meeting was highly insightful and rewarding. We again extend our congratulations to our winners, Gavin McKenna, Josh Schwartz, Ryan Gordon, John Gangemi, and to our three finalists Duke Wyler, Niki Aixala, and Justin Rothberg.
